Would you drink an energy drink called Pussy?

Pussy-can

While not available in the United States at this time, I first came across a can of Pussy about a year ago tied to a sponsorship campaign with the incredible MTV Staying Alive Foundation, which lent the Museum of Sex video footage for my exhibition, Rubbers: The Life, History and Struggle of the Condom.

The word pussy has a multitude of implications and meanings. For some, it is a word of empowerment and for others a word of degradation. The word  even has a different tone based on the nation in which it is used, in this case the UK. For Jonnie Shearer, the creator of Pussy energy drink in 2004 and as the website indicates "The name Pussy shocks and demands attention - that's the point. Inhibition is a recipe for mediocrity. This is a premium energy drink named with confidence."

As it isn't every day you have an opportunity to drink something with such a loaded title, but in all honesty, it was one of the best energy drinks I have ever tasted. It is made with a blend of fresh white grape juice from Southern Italy, pressed Mexican limes and lightly carbonated water. These are then mixed with Grenadilla and Lychee flavors, infused with six selected botanical herbs. The website goes into detail about the powers of each of these herbs, which in itself is an interesting read. With a newer vodka option on the market called Ultimat, I think the next big drink once Pussy makes its way to the US should be called The Ultimat Pussy. Will you order one?
