If you are going to be political, might as well do it naked

The nude form has long been used as a symbol of protest against the established system, a way of making a statement beyond the power of speeches and signs. It is also now used as a way to get attention as few things get as much attention as the nude form, particularly in public places. The installations below combine nudity and a political statement.

A comment and commemoration of the BP Oil spill created by the environmental protest group Liberate Tate. A nude individual was "exhibited" in the classical sculpture space lying in a fetal position covered in mock-oil for 87 minutes, one for each day of the spill. It was also to protest the fact that the Tate receives financial support from BP, which the group views to be "dirty money." Peta has been one of the groups best able to harness the power of the nude statement, with campaigns based on the idea that "I'd rather go naked than wear fur." In one of the latest projects, which claims "if Americans gave up one pound of meat, 2,463 gallons of water could be saved." This amount would be equivalent to six months of shower water. To get this point across, women took public baths or showers in Hollywood and London. The event got so much attention, there was even a car crash in Hollywood from a distracted spectator.
